Matthew Pryke comments on GDPR in ABTA Travel Law Today

By Matthew Pryke

Commercial partner Matthew Pryke commented on the EU’s new data protection regulation, due to come into effect next May, in the spring edition of ABTA publication, Travel Law Today. He advises businesses to get their heads around its implications as “Brexit or no Brexit, we all have to follow this regulation.”

Matthew, who spoke recently to the travel industry at the ABTA Travel Law Seminar in London, warned that “The law around direct marketing and understanding when customer consent may or may not be required is a complex area and one that is set to get trickier with the introduction of the EU General Data Protection Regulation.”

“Yes, I know we’re leaving the EU, but the UK will be bound by all regulations implemented before March 2019 and any UK business processing the data of European citizens will be required to comply with the new regulation.”
