Music Collecting Societies

By Martin Ochs

Hamlins act for Phonographic Performance Limited and PRS For Music in the protection of their copyright in sound recordings and musical works. Between them, the collecting societies represent hundreds of thousands of performers, composers and record companies and collect hundreds of millions of pounds per year in royalties and licence fees.

The two societies have recently embarked on a ground-braking joint venture; this is possibly the most ambitious and important change in the music sector for many years, our role has included regular consultation throughout the transition to draw on our expertise.
